Research

I am an ecologist focusing on forest history. My research deals with land use in boreal and subarctic ecosystems, vegetation changes, and species distribution and habitat preferences from a historical perspective (e.g. epiphytic lichens and wood-inhabiting fungi). I am especially interested in how humans have utilized different natural resources and in what way such land use has affected ecosystem structure and function and processes. The methods I work with come from both natural sciences (dendrochronology, pollen analysis and Geostatistics), and humanities (historical records and to some extent archaeology). I work in various parts of Sweden, southern Norway and north-central United States.

I conduct my research at EMG, but also at the Department of Ecology and Natural Resource Management (INA), Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Ås, Norway.
