Research
I am an ecologist interested in running waters. I write papers and proposals, administer projects, lecture, supervise PhD students and postdoctoral fellows, and review papers and proposals of others. I am connected as an editor to the journals Ecological Applications; Journal of Ecology; Ecosystems; Ecology & Society; Freshwater Biology; and Perspectives in Plant Ecology, Evolution and Systematics. My research areas include effects of climate changes on hydrology and wetland vegetation, effects of restoration, and the threat of hydrologic changes on biological diversity. A common feature of the research is that I analyze nature from a large-scale – in many cases global – perspective, and try to understand how different parts of the landscape are connected ecologically.
